Players of the Week

TEAM OF THE WEEK  |  United U14 Girls Premier!

For their performance against Carbondale! This team beat us soundly last year at 6-0 and 5-1. This time the U14G Premier team was ready for the challenge! The defense stayed with their strikers and the offense beat Carbondale’s defense. We matched their time of possession and created chances, two areas we were unable to match last year! We almost pulled out the W but the shot hit the crossbar near the end of the match. I am extremely proud of their performance as a group. Communication was there and so was the ball movement and runs! All aspects came together on Saturday and we ended on a 3-3 draw.  As a side note, the RFVSC team is ranked 21 positions higher than us in the state of Colorado.

SENIOR GIRLS PLAYER OF THE WEEK  |  Brooke Matheson U/14 Girls Select

Brooke was outstanding and scored four of our six goals.  Her performance was solid on the stat line, but the true reason for her nomination is her dedication to the principles of mindfulness and zone mindset. She’s been given a HUGE ask on this which can be a tremendous mental stressor. She has risen to the occasion and beyond.  Couldn’t be prouder of her journey to master mental clarity!

SENIOR BOYS PLAYER OF THE WEEK  |  Owen Hallagan U/15 Boys Select

Saturday’s game vs B-Elite COS A turned into a track meet ending in a 6-4 loss.  Without Owen’s 10+ saves, this game could have gotten really out of hand. Owen made diving saves, crowded box punch outs, saves on shots, and then saves on 1st and 2nd put back attempts. One save in particular, he was diving to his right and had a left hand reaction block to stop a shot that our back line cleared.  He was simply outstanding. We are working to give him more help going forward, but Owen is always up to the task and kept us in the game. Way to go, Big O!

YOUTH BOYS CO-PLAYER OF THE WEEK   |   Creighton, U/13 Boys Select

Creighton played right full back – a new position for him. At halftime, Creighton asked if he could return to that position. This showed an excellent attitude toward learning the game. He took great steps toward excelling at the position on Saturday, closing down nearly every attack from his side. Well done, Creighton!

YOUTH BOYS CO-PLAYER OF THE WEEK  |  Rylan, U/11 Boys Select

Normally I focus on goals and offense, however, this week I am nominating a defender!  Rylan played probably his best game in the three years I have been coaching him. This solid center back almost single-handedly shut down Real Colorado as the 09 Boys Select notched their 3rd win and 2nd clean sheet in a row!  The scoring was scattered around in a 10-0 rout, and one of the most amazing goals came also from Rylan on a free kick from about 20 yards out!  Rylan has elevated his game to another level in the 9v9 division!
