Players of the Week

SENIOR GIRLS CO-PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

The U14G had 3 matches this weekend, including 2 on Sunday with only a 2 hr. break in between, and the second game followed an exhausting first game on a large, hot turf field.  They lost none of the games, but it took all they had to maintain a draw for the last one.

Kajsa was unscored in all 3 games, and her best soccer performance to date was the last game of the weekend where she was the iron bulwark standing strong behind a very fatigued team.  She made some of the most amazing saves by charging out to challenge, taking shots at point blank range, and snagging things out the air like no other.  Her bravery was uncanny and relentless in the face of opponents making run after attacking run.  The opposing team’s coach summed it up well in an email she sent me, saying, “What a well fought game by both sides - fun game! Your GK is fantastic - I cannot say I’ve seen a GK that strong at our level. Her reflexes alone! Impressive!!”

McKinley scored 1 goal and assisted on the other 2 in the team’s first win Saturday.  She played a dominant midfielder and strong forward all through the weekend, showing great vision particularly with her assists.  The first was a textbook cross that split the defenders with perfect pace for her teammate to run onto.  During the other assist, the ball was crossing the end line, about 8 yards to the left of the goal, but she flicked it back up and over into the 6 yard box area where her teammate finished with a header.

YOUTH GIRLS PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Tulla (U12G) was fantastic as keeper in the first half, and couldn't wait for her chance to play Mid for once. I delivered the tough news that our second half Goalie was injured. Very frustrated she headed back out, but managed another shutout. She took one for the team, and executed with great energy under difficult conditions.

SENIOR BOYS PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Adrian (U17B) worked endlessly in a game where we only had 10 men, due to a player not showing.  He controlled the mid field created endless opportunities for his teammates, ending in a 4-1 win for United. His leadership and encouragement drove the team to success.

YOUTH BOYS PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Nicholas (U10B) is the player of the week. He normally plays on the right wing and comes back to help with the defense. He is really good on taking players on which he does with great technical skills.  We played 2 games this weekend, one tied and one loss, the one we lost we played without subs and ,he literally played all positions except goalkeeping helping recuperate balls and taking his team captain role very seriously.
